BLUFF

Bluff is the oldest European town in New Zealand, 30 minutes drive from Invercargill. It is well known for its oysters in season. Stirling Point signpost marks the beginning of State Highway 1. If you travel up Bluff Hill you will see spectacular panoramic views of Southland and Stewart Island. Foveaux walkway offers easy walks with superb views. Stewart Island Helicopters are based in Bluff and offer scenic flights over Stewart Island.

STEWART ISLAND

A unique place, well worth a visit. Travel from Bluff to Stewart Island by ferry (1 hour), plane or helicopter. Stewart Island has something for everyone: bus tours, walks, mountain biking, Ulva Island (bird sanctuary), underwater cruise, fishing and salmon trips. Rental services and accommodation are available on the island. Try a bite to eat at Stewart Island Hotel – you can see it when you berth at the wharf.

LIGNITE PIT SCENIC STOP

This is a hidden treasure only 9km from Long Acres Farmstay. The site for removal of lignite around 1904 has now been transformed into a peaceful lakeside garden park. Also features a café, gift shop and function marquee. It is a must to see for your Catlins Southern Scenic Route tour.

WAITUNA WETLANDS

Another attraction which is easy to travel to from Long Acres Farmstay is the Waituna Wetlands. On arriving, there is 200 metre boardwalk to a viewing shelter. Interpretation is provided in the shelter. Nature at its best for you to view.
